-

.

.

.

'"

CITY OF ARDEN HILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

Dcccmber 1, 2000

TO:

Joe Lynch, City Administrator

FROM:

Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director ..,I

SUBJECT: Pnblic Works - Fourth Quartcr Update

Streets
. Round Lake Road
The contractor has milled out and overlayed three areas of the project that the City
would not accept. The dip where the permanent roadway meets the temporary
transition to the old roadway still exists to some degree, With the dip being in the
temporary roadway the City Engineer and the Public Works Director decided to leave
well enough alone and evaluate the area again before a final payment is made.

.

Countv Road E Streetlil!hts
One of the City owned streetlights on County Road E near Twin City Federal was
struck by a vehicle on November 2,2000, and will need replacing, A new base, pole
and fixture have been ordered, The good news is the reinforcing Council approved
last summer held, This reinforces the Public Works Directors opinion that the
urgency for replacement of these lightpoles may not be as originally thought.

.

Clcvcland Avenue Railroad Bridl!c
The new bridge is now open with increased safety sight lines and a sidewalk. The
City's fire hydrant was moved to a more accessible location just behind the sidewalk,

.

Snowplowinl!:/Sandinl!: Operations
The City Administrator and Public Works Director will be exploring the
Possibility of one or two Public Works employees starting at 4:00 a.m, during the
snow season. This would provide a headstart for any plowing or sanding
operations that develop over night. A reduction in trips to the City by the Public
Works Director to check street conditions would also occur.

. Scwer Svstcm Backups
The City has experienced about a half dozen sewer plugs this past month, Several
have been in the City's main lines and several have been in the resident's service
lines to the main. Fortunately, damages have been minimal and major claims have
been denied due to the City's maintenance records. Two claims of about $135 each
on Lake Johanna Boulevard are still outstanding,
