fI

.

.

.

Public Works ~ Fourth Quarter Update
Page Two
December I, 2000

.

Thc Inl:crson Lift Station
The City Engineer has submitted a recommendation to allow staff to seek bids for the
reconstruction ofthis facility. The Engineer would prefer to combine the lift station
work with next year's sewer televising and maintenance projects, This may result in
more aggressive bidding due to the larger project, as well as lower engineering fees,

.

Sanitarv Scwer Grease Ordinancc
The Public Works Director would like to hear input from the City Council members
regarding their support ofthe proposcd ordinance before continuing down this path,
Council may recall the ordinance would require all commercial food processing
establishments to have grease traps installed in their sewer service outlet before it
enters the City Jines, This could conceivably cost the food processors several
thousand dollars, depending on the type of trap best suited for their application,

Water Utility
. Meter Reolaccment Proicct
Nearly 2200 of the City's 2350 water meters have now been replaced or upgraded,
The City will begin sending notices to the remaining 150 or so residents who have not
scheduled for a replacement or upgrade following Council's approval of Resolution
No, 00-41.

.

Sumo Pumo Insoections
The building inspector is waiting to hear from approximately 100 residents who were
sent notices of sump pump violation tbis past quarter. Most residents are complying
with the City ordinance and having their sump pump discharge line rerouted out of
the City sewer and into their yards,

.

Old Hil!:hway 10 Watcr Main Proiect
The water main and service lines are all in, Only cblorination and testing remain
before putting the line into service. All the driveways are usable, but restoration work
was halted by the wet and cold weather. This is the first time plastic water main has
been used in Arden Hills. Due to the acidic clay soils, many of the City's cast iron
water mains have experienced premature failures where pipe and fittings have rusted
away. Plastic is now used extensively in several area cities.

.

Citv Hall Watcr Linc
The new 8" water line that supplies the new city hall site is completed. The line was
chlorinated and tested for bacteria then put into service, The general contractor is
now using water from this line for construction purposes.
