The <br />motion carried (4-1), <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />This Planning Case wil1 be reviewed at the Monday, January 8, 2001, City Council meeting, <br /> <br />PLANNING CASE # 00-40 - MANUFACTURERS' SERVICES - PLANNED UNIT <br />DEVELOPMENT AMENDMENT - 4300 WEST ROUND LAKE ROAD - PUBLIC <br />HEARING <br /> <br />Chair Erickson opened the public hearing at 8:16 p.m, <br /> <br />Ms. Chaput explained that the applicant is requesting to amend the Planned Unit Development <br />for 4300 West Round Lake Road for expansion of a trash compactor from eight yard compactor <br />to a forty yard compactor, <br /> <br />Ms. Chaput stated thatManufacturers' Services contacted the City regarding the expansion of <br />their current compactor in October. She added that they have been located at 4300 West Round <br />Lake Road since August, 1997, and since this time, they have grown significantly in staff and <br />business, requiring the need for an expansion to their compactor. <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput stated that the business currently uses an eight yard compactor and would like to <br />expand it to forty yards. She added that the eight yard compactor was approved as part of <br />Planning Case #96-12. She noted that the expanded compactor would al10w the business to <br />operate more efficiently with a more cost effective way of disposing of solid waste. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput stated, with regard to zoning requirements for screening of mechanical equipment, <br />that Section VI, E, 4,j of the Zoning Ordinance requires that, "Screening shal1 also be provided <br />where mechanical operating equipment is located on the ground or on the roof of the <br />premises., ,constructed and located to prevent direct view of the equipment". She added that <br />screening types may be a fence, wal1 or landscaping area. It is the property owner's <br />responsibility to provide screening, as required, <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput stated that the eight yard trash compactor is currently not screened, She added that it <br />is situated outside a large screened area, holding liquid nitrogen tanks, She noted that the <br />compactor is not currently enclosed because it is pul1ed five days a week for servicing and can <br />not be accessed from within an enclosure, <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput staled that the compactor is not visible from the road since it is screened by the <br />adjacent enclosure, She added that since the proposed compactor is significantly larger than the <br />existing compactor, the applicant has proposed a screening fence that juts out from the enclosure <br />to solely screen the compactor from the road, She noted this would be one side of screening, not <br />an enclosure. <br /> <br />Ms. Chaput stated that the applicant proposes that it match the materials and height of the <br />existing screening that is currently beside the compactor and extend for the length that the <br />compactor surpasses the enclosure, She added the proposed forty yard compactor is an overall . <br />length of26' plus the doghouse which is an additiona125', <br /> <br />Ms. Chaput reviewed a site plan showing the phases of development in this area which <br />demonstrates that the area where the compactor currently is situated and will be expanded within <br />
