<br />I <br /> <br />~ <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Subwatershed 12b: Baldwin Lake <br /> <br />Policies: <br /> <br />A.3, B.l, B.2, B.3, B.4, B.5, C.l, C.2, C.3, C.4, C.5, D.l, D.2, E.l, E.2, E.3, <br />E.4, E.5, and F <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />This subwatershed totals approximately 19.15 sq mi and includes the entire Lino Lakes <br /> <br /> <br />Cham of Lakes. These lakes are George Watch, Marshan, Reshanau, Rice, and Baldwin. <br /> <br /> <br />Several additional DNR-protected waterbodies exist near this chain with the entire chain <br /> <br /> <br />functioning as one large floodplain during high flow conditions. The large amount of storage <br /> <br /> <br />provided in the chain will ensure negligible increases in runoff from above this area due to <br /> <br />future development. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />This area is undergoing rapid development, however, District and city policies for protecting <br /> <br /> <br />floodplains and wetlands have helped to maximize preservation of natural areas and <br /> <br />prevention of flooding. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Anoka Regional Park extends through this subwatershed and provides canoe and foot <br /> <br /> <br />trails through the lakes area. Water quality in these shallow lakes is generally poor and it is <br /> <br />hoped that implementation of the Upper Watershed Improvement Project will result in <br /> <br /> <br />higher quality headwaters for the area. The conversion of agricultural land use to <br /> <br /> <br />residential development may aid in recovery of these basins. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Subwatershed 13a: Turtle Lake <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Policies: <br /> <br />A.3,B.l, B.2, B.3, B.4, B.5, C.l, C.2, C.3, CA, C.5, D.l, D.2, E.l, E.2, E.3, <br />E.4, E.5, and F <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />This subwatershed covers an area of approximately 1.3 sq mi. Turtle Lake is generally very <br /> <br /> <br />high quality and provides adequate storage for the small area tributary to it. Turtle Lake <br /> <br /> <br />was the subject of a Clean Water Partnership Grant Application to the MPCA which was not <br /> <br /> <br />approved. In the past several years, Turtle Lake has been subject to an obscure state law <br /> <br /> <br />which requires the Watershed District to administer a permit program for the nonessential <br /> <br /> <br />appropriation of water from it. Data from this program is being collected and could be used <br /> <br /> <br />by Ramsey County and the DNR in future studies which address the effects of the <br /> <br /> <br />discontinued lake augmentation program from Ramsey County wells. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />4-21 <br /> <br />10/97 <br />
