<br />ORDINANCE <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />SIGNS <br /> <br />SECTION I. TITLE <br /> <br />This Ordinance shall be known, cited and referred to as the Arden Hills Sign Ordinance, except as <br />refelTed to herein, where it shal1 be known as "this Ordinance" <br /> <br />SECTION II. PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> <br />Regulations governing signs arc established to allow effective signage appropriate to the planned <br />character of each district, to promote an attractive environment, to minimize adverse effects on <br />nearby propelty, and protect the public health, safety, and welfare. <br /> <br />SECTION III. SCOPE OF REGULATIONS <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Scope of Rel!ulations. The sign regulations set fOlth in this Ordinance shall apply to all <br />stJuctures and al1land uses. This Ordinance describes the signage standards for pelmitted and <br />conditional uses in the nine special sign distJ-icts that overlay the zoning distJ-icts of the City. <br />Specific additional regulations are established for signs which are unique in purpose and not easily <br />addressed by disu'ict regulations. No person shall place, erect or maintain a sign, nor shall a lessee <br />or owner permit property under their control to be used for such sign, which does not conform tc <br />the requirements of this Ordinance, and all other applicable regulations. <br /> <br />SECTION IV. EXEMPT SIGNS <br /> <br />Exempt Sitms. The following signs shall be exempt from the regulations of this Ordinance. <br />A. Official public notices or warning signs required by local, state or federal law, including <br />but not limited tc tJ'alTic control and other regulatcry purpose signs. <br />B. Any sign located inside a building that is not legible from more than 3 feet beyond the <br />property line of the parcel or lot the sign is located on. <br />e. Religious symbols or works of art that do not contain a commercial message. <br />D. Any temporary for sale or for rent sign that advertises the sale or rental of residential <br />premises upon which the sign is located as long as the sign is not illuminated and does not <br />exceed 24 sq. f1. in area or 4 ft. in height, or the height pelmitted for an auxiliary sign in that <br />sign district, if greater. "For Sale" or "For Rent" signs on non residential properties shall <br />be regulated as provided in the section "Special Sign Types" <br />E. Any sign display or device al10wed under this section may contain, in lieu of other copy, <br />. any otherwise lawful noncommercial message that does not direct attention to a business <br /> <br />10/03/01 CITY PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />1 <br />
