Memorandum, 2001 Third Quarter Report- Parks and Recreation
Page 2
October 9, 2001

. 57 Adult Softball teams, with 912 participants. There were 54 teams with 882
participants in 2000.
. Summer Playgrounds were up 52 participants from 2000.
. 316 participants in Youth Soccer, up 28 participants from 2000.
. 145 participants in Summer T-Ball!Softball, down 23 participants from 2000.
. 39 participants in Adult & Youth Tennis, down 6 participants from 2000.
. 200 participants in the Penny Carnival, same number of participants as in 2000.
. 20 participated in Safety Camp, same number of participants as in 2000.

Staff would like to note that the tragic events of September 11,2001 have also had a
negative impact on the programs offered by the Recreation Department. We have used
the U.S. Army Reserve Center to hold many of our lager classes. Because that facility
has been shut down and is offlimits to the public, staff has had to scramble to find
alternative locations. Enrollment has suffered because of this. We are experiencing a 29%
cancellation rate for fall programs. Last year at this time it was a 15 % cancellation rate.

.

.

.
