In addition, almost the entire interior of the existing
building is being renovated. Specifically, here are some of the project's components that
appear to affect fire and life safety:
. New heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems,
. Major electrical renovation,
. Fire- rated exit corridor construction,
. Fire separation wall installation (area separation walls per UBC for the addition),
. Additional classrooms and assembly areas (commons, cafeteria, auditorium),
. Fire sprinkler system installation,
. Fire alarm system upgrade.

The project was originally planned in phases over a multi-year (two year?) period. In an
earlier agreement with the Arden Hill Building Official Dave Scherbel, all student areas
would be completed and sprinklered prior to school opening. It now appears that this will
not happen.

Part of this project included the City of Arden Hills extending a water line across some
adjacent properties to improve the dead-end lines. The "looped" water main will greatly
increase the available flow. The City is involved in easement negotiations with one of the
property mwers so it is not known when the water supply upgrades will be made (this
project may be delayed until winter). This improvement is critical to the proper operation of
the sprinkler system

We are concerned that the work will not have progressed far enough by school opening to
allow for student occupancy. The following are the minimum requirements for student
occupancy of this building:

EOUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
