The fire alann system must be installed and operational includingsmoke detection throughout the egress
system and indicating appliances (i.e. horns); this is the minimum allowed by the fire code for existing
schools,
. Construction barriers must be installed and maintained hetween the areas where work is taking place and
where there is student occupancy,
. Exit sigItage must be provided,
. Emergency lighting must be provided,
. The fire extinguishing system for the kitchen hood system must be operational prior to cooking,
. A revised egress piJIn must be developed. It appears that a substantial part of the exit capacity for this
buildinlt has been "J;m;n atell The only exit doors are at the end of the corridors. These exits would greatly
exceed travel distance and are probably not adequate to accommodate the number of persons in the building.
TelIlj10rary egress facilities will need to be provided if the exiting egress capacity is not adequate,
. No work can take place in classroom or egress spaces while students occupy these areas. There can be no
nh,:tmctinn.to-egr"'. (includingmechanical ecnripment and tools) and no cuttin&.welding, or similar open
flame processes can take place while school is in session,
. The school district should develop a conting!l1lcy plan on how to conduct school if this building does not
meet these minimum fire safety issues by school opening.

This.iS-unajl)uenm.'atioILproiect that will greatly enhance fire and life safety when completed. Until that time,
we have major fire protection and construction concerns. We understand that all of the related work (ie.
. ;n sl911.t;nn of suspendes:l ce~ etc.).fOLthe final sprinkler system inslJl11ation 1l18)\ not be completed by the
time of student occupancy.

The requirements outlined above are no different than the minimum fire and life safety requirements for an
existing school and represent the fire protection features that existed in the school prior to the commencement
of this project.

The contractor and/or architect should provide the building. and fire officials with a schedule for completion of
the fire and life safety issues.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
