How do we <br />promote attendance? The 2002 Day in the Park event was advertised via bulk <br />mailing to residents and was also published in all the local newspapers. The <br />number of participants was greatly decreased from the previous year's <br />celebration. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that the City continue to sponsor its Day in the Park celebration as an annual <br />event. Each year the event occurs more people attend. As far as scope, staff believes the parade <br />and fireworks display are the most attractive activities to the public. Staff further recommends <br />the City Council allocate $20,000 per year for the event, with additional monies funded through <br />local businesses and organizations. Staff is concerned that the planning and organizing of this <br />annual event may be compromised by the lack of community support and volunteers which are <br />necessary for its success in the future. <br />
