<br />l <br /> <br />"""""'f <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />~ <br />'1'\~HILLS <br /> <br />MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS, MINNESOTA <br />CITY COUNCIL WORKSESSION <br />MONDAY, MARCH 18,2002,4:45 P.M. <br />CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 1245 WEST HIGHWAY 96 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Mayor Probst called the meeting to order at 5 :34 p.m, Councilmembers present were <br />Beverly Aplikowski, Gregg Larson, Lois Rem, and Gregg Larson. <br /> <br />Staff present included Recreation Supervisor Michelle Olson; City Planner, Aaron <br />Parrish; City Treasurer, Terry Post; City Engineer, Greg Brown; and Recording <br />Secretary, Jackie Gritz. <br /> <br />Cynthia Young, Deputy Clerk Introduction - The new Deputy Clerk, Cynthia Young, <br />was introduced by Joe Lynch. <br /> <br />STAFF DISCUSSION ITEMS <br /> <br />Administration <br /> <br />Day In the Park Funding - Aplikowski summarized the meeting last week regarding <br />the Day In the Park. She noted the rough estimate is $30,000 if we do a 1:0 from 10:00 <br />p,m. She noted we can go to the community and ask for money, and are currently doing <br />that. She said to Council is the Day In the Park that important to Council to spend that <br />kind of money and if we do it this year we may be committed to do it every year, If the <br />City is not willing to financially back it up then should we go back to the 4 hour day. <br />Currently we are budgeted at $10,000, Mayor said he would find time to solicit the <br />businesses that are wiling to give money. Last year we raised $33,000. Olson noted we <br />do not have a lot of former committee members to help, We would need more committee <br />members to help with some of the tasks. $2,500 was for the parade though this year we <br />are looking for participants who do not require payment or donation. Larson noted we <br />had such a great day last year and we cannot equal that and would prefer to start out with <br />something smaller but of quality and build on that. Aplikowski said we need the <br />reassurance the money will be there. Olson noted the committee really needs to move <br />forward quickly - fireworks have been promised to people. Aplikowski said she'd really <br />like to put together as much of a parade as possible, Larson said he believes it will be <br />harder to have a parade in the afternoon because he believes people are not as busy in the <br />morning. Lynch noted we still have a $200,000 surplus in the operations budget and <br />
