<br />City of Arden Hills Personnel Policy <br /> <br />Effectivc Junc 29,2002 <br /> <br />HOURS OF WORK <br /> <br />Work Schedules <br />Because of the necessity of providing municipal services twenty-four hours per day, seven <br />days per week, employees are required to work a regular schedule of hours as established by <br />the City. A regular schedule of hours should not be construed as excluding shift rotations and <br />emergency work schedules based on public necessity as determined by the City. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Employee Definitions <br /> <br />1. Full-time employees are regular full-time and "probationary" full-time <br />employees hired to work forty (40) hours per week and who have been <br />designated by the City Council as full-time employees, receiving the benefits of <br />full-time status. Full-time employees are designated by the City Council. <br /> <br />2. Part-time employees are hired to work less than forty (40) hours per week and <br />who have been desiguated as part-time by the City Council. Permanent part- <br />time employees who normally work 20 hours a week on regular basis will <br />receive Personal Time Off and holiday pay on a pro-rated basis, if approved by <br />the City Administrator. Part-time employees are designated by the City Council. <br /> <br />Work Assignments . <br />The department managers and the City Administrator will arrange work assignments for the <br />best operation of the department for all employees in all departments. All meal breaks are <br />unpaid. <br /> <br />Breaks <br />A fifteen (15) minute rest period/ coffee break will be allowed during each half of a full-time <br />employee's shift. Departments are responsible for scheduling rest periods/ coffee breaks that <br />do not interfere with work requirements. A one-half (1/2) hour unpaid lunch break will be <br />provided during a shift, and will normally occur midway in a shift. <br /> <br />Employees will not work through a lunch break without prior approval from the City <br />Administrator or supervisor. <br /> <br />A maximum of one (1) hour unpaid lunch period may be provided in each eight (8) hour <br />workday with the approval of the employee's supervisor. Exempt employees shall receive <br />lunch periods at times determined by the needs of their work. <br /> <br />Any employee who performs a regular eight (8) hour shift between the hours of <br />9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m., or any employee who works more than five (5) consecutive hours of . <br />overtime, shall be given a thirty (30) minute lunch break with pay. <br /> <br />22 <br />
