.

Computer-aided measurements are taken directly from the school site to the homc
address to detennine distances. The distances are determined along circuitous routes of
roadways.

Will this change affect schools' start and end times?
The start/end times will not change next year. Buses will continue to operate on the four-
tier system.

How will tliis change affect the length of typical bus rides?
This information is not yet available, as we do not know the number of students who will
ride buses. The elementary routes will not see much change since their routes are located
in such close proximity to the school.

Is transportation for special education students affected?
Special education transportation is federally mandated and is not affected by the changes.

How will transportation to day care facilities be affected?
Ifa student's day care facility is beyond two miles of the school, transportation will be
free. If the facility is within two miles of the school, transportation will be available for a
fee.

.

What are the hazardous crossings and whom will they affect?
A Bus Safety Committee will be studying hazardous crossings. Details will be explained
in future communications.

What other safety precautions are being taken?
The Bus Safety Committee will be evaluating each school's site for safety precautions
that can be established. The committee consists of Fay Gallagher, Transportation
Supervisor for Mounds View Public Schools; a safety officer from the bus company; the
school safety patrol officer with the Ramsey County Sheriffs Department; a
representative from the City Police Department where applicable; a representative from
the City Public Works Department; and a representative from each school. For those who
feel unsafe, the District encourages you to participate in the fee-for-service program or to
independently arrange for transportation.

Can students walk to a pick-up point and receive transportation?
Only students whose names are on the passenger list (or new students with passes) may
ride a bus.

.
