<br />. <br /> <br />Preliminary Demographic Report <br />February 2002 <br /> <br />The following Preliminary Report is prepared for presentation to the Fiscal and Facilities Advisory Committees at <br />their request. This report will be finalized when the Demographics Committee has completed all of its tasks and <br />reports to the Superintendent in the spring of2002. Our Consultant John Carpenter, President of Ex census, district <br />technology staff and members oftbe Demographics Advisory Committee have prepared contents of the report. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />I. Demographic factors influencing 623 enrollment <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A Basic demographic trends- aging of the Baby Boomers <br />Shift in Resident Population by Age 1990-2000 (See Appendix A) <br /> <br />B. Birth rate of residents <br />RoseviJle shows a drop of 13% in the pre-school population. The decrease in pre-school <br />children is not unique to RoseviJle. Suburban Ramsey County shows a decline of 17.1% <br />and Suburban Hennepin County shows a decrease of 3.7%. <br /> <br />There is a drop in 0-4 chil<iren statewide of 2_1 % <br /> <br />Fertility Rate (Minnesota Planm11g May 2000) for Asian women is twice the rate <br />for Caucasian women_ <br /> <br />C. Residents putting down roots <br />People moved into Roseville in the 1960-70 as young couples and stayed because <br />they like it here. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />D. Housing stock <br />No place to build new homes <br />Availability of move-up housing (i Ct-c1<j <br />Lack of affordable housing for first time buyers <br /> <br />The median selling price reported by MLS for single family dwellings, condos <br />and town homes was S156,480 in 2000. <br /> <br />The cutoff for average first time buyers is estimated at SI20,000. <br />(Census ligures aren t available on housing until summer 2003.) <br /> <br />. <br />
