The ERC
members have met during their lunch break several times in the past three months to discuss
possible employee recognition strategies such as longevity rewards, an employee newsletter; and .
an "innovative idea program" that encourages employees to present ideas which may save the
City money and time, and encourages safety to the residents and staff.

The ERC members would like to present the complete outcomes ofthese meetings to the Council
at its second meeting in January, 2003. However, at this time, ERC members bring forth the
following situation:

On October 31, 2002, Operations and Maintenance Worker Michael McKinney retires after
serving the residents of Arden Hills for thirty-one (31) years.

Considering the City does not have an employee recognition policy in effect, Staff requests
direction from Council regarding recognition of Mike McKinney at its October 28, 2002
meeting.
