member Hicks asked if a well, at an estimated cost of

.

$300,000.00, would meet the City's water needs.

Engineer

Liebenow advised that two wells would be necessary to provide the

needed l,OOO to l,200 gallons per minute rate.

Council member Sather took exception to the Shoreview

"hard" water vs. the City's "soft" water comparison made by

Council member Hansen. He said he still needs a water softener

to soften the City's water.

Council member Sather then asked Engineer Liebenow about

backflow to Roseville if the valve should inadvertently not be

closed.

Engineer Liebenow said that this would not occur.

He

advised that the water tank would be full at all times except

during peak water usage. The discussion thereupon concluded.
The Resolution, the adoption of which had been earlier

moved and seconded by Council members Hicks and Hansen, was
entitled and read as follows:

RESOLUTION No. 86-l6

RESOLUTION ORDERING PREPARATION OF
PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
1 MILLION GALLON WATER TANK AND
ALTERNATE OF ll:> MILLION GALLON WATER TANK

WHEREAS, pursuant to request of the City Council the City

Engineer has prepared a preliminary feasibility report and cost
estimate (the "Feasibility Report"), dated January lO, 1986, as
. to the City's construction of a 1 million gallon water tower or,
in the alternative, a ll:> million gallon water tower (the "Water

Tower"), and

- 4 -
