.

.

.

Memo to Mayor and Council
September 8, 2003
Page 3 of3

Since a majority of the salary for this position does not come from the General Fund, as
mentioned above it can be accommodated within the budget. Assuming the position was hired at
the mid-point (step 3), there is a $357 monthly differential in what was being paid to the previous
AccountantlTreasurer. There is a $957 differential between step three of the previous position
and step three of the proposed position. The salary schedule for the Community Development
Director/Assistant City Administrator position would remain the same.

Discussion Points

To facilitate Council discussion on this issue, I would propose the following discussion points:

1. Is the Council comfortable creating a Finance Department, replacing the City Accountant
Treasurer position with a Finance Director, and proceeding to fill the position?
2. Is the Council comfortable changing the existing Community Services Director position to a
Community Development Director / Assistant City Administrator position?
3. Is the Council agreeable with proposed revision to the salary schedule?

Requested Action

1. Provided for discussion. If the Council would like to proceed with this approach, it can be
placed on the September 29, 2003 City Council agenda for approval.
