<br />W!:~~~~:2!.,!!~~g,?,:~:!~~ <br /> <br /> <br />Return to the <br />Home Paoe <br /> <br />North Metro 1-35W Corridor Coalition <br />llltr,Qdu_gioQ <br />Vj~iQn Slatement <br />Financial aQdln.:cf<iDd Contributors <br />Consultants <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />The North Melro 1-35W Corridor Coalition is comprised of seven cities who, <br />through a joint powers agreement, have created a unique, collaborative effort to <br />address transportation, housing, economic development, and land use issues <br />throughout the member cities but especially along the north metro 1-35W Interstate <br />corridor, minor arterials (County Roads), and community collector streets that connect <br />the communities, The seven communities are Arden Hills, Blaine, Circle Pines, <br />Mounds View, New Brighton, Roseville, and Shoreview. Together the cities <br />encompass 83 square miles, a population of over 160,000 and include 60,000 <br />households, 4,500 businesses, and 99,000 jobs, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />,... <br /> <br />The goal of the Coalition is to develop a subregional set of policies and strategies <br />which improve the quality of life for residents, balance housing demand with job <br />creation, enhance the economic climate and sustain the environmental and <br />recrealional resources throughout the communities, consistent with the <br />Metropolitan Council Blueprint. <br /> <br />The initial focus of the Coalition was to create a comprehensive and uniform <br />database and geographic information system (GIS) related to land use, <br />socio-demographics, housing, transportation. In 2000 and 2001 the Coalition <br />identified opportunities where the communilies working togelher couid formulate <br />and implement programs to address mulual concerns, Examples of such activities <br />include combined efforts to coordinate land use issues along community borders, <br />promote economic development, address housing maintenance, improve <br />transportation, and promote increased transit. The Coalition has also reached <br />out to involve other community entities such as school districts and counties, <br />to participate in specific programs that impact their interests as well as the <br />Coalition's, <br /> <br />As part of the 1998 mandatory planning program, Ihe Coalition furnished <br />database and GIS information for use (and comparison) by each city during <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br />
