C) Variance Proposal for 1301 Cannon Ave. Who we are... We are Mark and Julie Arend, presently of North 5t. Paul. We have signed a purchase agreement on 1301 Cannon Ave. and will close on May 28. We are very familiar with the neighborhood, since Mark's parents, Paul and Jean Arend, have lived two blocks away from the new house for 20 years, and Mark grew up in the Roseville area. We have five children ranging in age from 5 to 13, including a set of twins. Mark is a remodeler, and Julie is a stay-at-home mom. For four years, we have been seriously searching for a home to accommodate the growing needs of our family, and we believe we have found it. We know the Browns, the present owners of 1301 Cannon, and when they approached us about buying their home as they retired, we were thrilled. Here are some of the reasons we're excited about this particular home. 1. 2. () 3. 4. 5. 6. We place a high priority on being near family, school and church. We love the proximity to Mark's folks, and to our church and school, both in Roseville, Our children are now in a Christian school, but recognizing that this may not always be financially feasible, we have been seeking a stronger school district than the one we are in. This house is in the Moundsview school district, one of the best metro districts. Mark, as a remodeler, and has done a lot of work on the house for the Browns and is familiar with it. The house is mechanically very sound, and has many channing touches. The home is in a beautiful natural setting. It borders the woods south of CountrylM51lnsurance, and our children can literally walk .over the [creek] and through the woods to Grandmother's house". The home is affordable for us. We are moving from a newer home to an older home to manage affordability. This Arden Hills neighborhood has a wonderful mix of family-orientation, convenience, space and privacy. We place a high priority on family closeness and faith, feeling that in this season of our life, our greatest calling as parents is to raise children who love God and grow up to be a blessing to others. We believe this home will help to promote these family ideals. What we're DroDosina... On page 10 of this proposal is an artist's rendering of what we hope our new home will look like a year from now. The garage shown is new, and requires the variance we are applying for. On page 11 is a plan of the existing house, and shown on page 12 is a plan of Option A, what we are proposing. We would like to add a main level family room and a larger garage to the existing house.
