Joe Mooney & Mike Schifsky

The creation of a liquid drop spreader, holding tank and a hand held spayer attachment that can
be mounted to almost any vehicle currently in our fleet. Joe & Mike came up with the concept, received
Staff approval and then sold the concept to one of our regular 0 & M vendors who then donated
approximately $700.00 in materials. Joe & Mike built the unit from scratch in the shop, during 'down
time' in their normal work week. The unit is self contained, portable, and can be used as a drop spreader
for large areas or with the hand held attachment for smaller areas. The unit can be mounted on any of
our pickup trucks or Toro units. Possible uses could include the spraying of; deicer on sidewalks, trails,
parking lots; weed killer/ fertilizer in confined areas located in parks, trails, flower gardens; pesticides
for small trees & shrubs. The unit can be operated from the inside of any vehicle. This project took a
approximately 25 hours of staff time to construct. Joe & Mike showed their collective creativity and
initiative in developing a concept, securing donated materials and constructing a multi-functional piece
of equipment that will benefit the residents of Arden Hills.

.

2. Jim Perron

Jim saved the City of Arden Hills $100,000 which was bugeted in the 2003 CIP for the repair ofthe Red
Fox/Gray Fox sewer line. That particular section of sewer line had been identified by Staff, the City
Engineer, LMCIT and an outside vendor as having a major problem. Because of this situation, some of
the business in the immediate area had experienced damage from sewer back ups. Through the creative
use of existing City equipment such as the newly purchased sewer camera system, the pipe root
cutter, and the Vactor truck he was able to restore that section of sewer line to working condition. This
was accomplished with City Staff, with no over time cost incurred and without spending any of the
funds previously allocated in the 2003 CIP budget. Jim was able to analyize the situation, determine a
course of action, and effectively utilize City resourses in such a manner that this particular section of
sewer line could be restored to working order.

.

1/15/2004
