<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORKSESSION <br />JANUARY 20, 2004 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />The Council discussed signage height and design standards, and directed Staff to have the <br />Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee and Planning Commission discuss the Gateway <br />Signage project at a joint meeting in July, 2004. Council further indicated that staff could <br />proceed with the Ne]son easement at its next regular meeting, contingent upon a height <br />restriction of 4'-6' on the Gateway Signage easement. <br /> <br />2.C Emplovee Reeo2nition Pro2ram <br /> <br />Ms. Young presented the Employee Recognition Program, which the Employee <br />Recognition Committee drafted in 2003. <br /> <br />The Council and Staff discussed options for recognition, directing staff to provide them <br />with copies of the "Hills Happenings" and also to develop specific criteria for money or <br />time saving ideas. Ibe Council directed the ERC bring forth a revised draft of the <br />program at the February Work Session. <br /> <br />2.E 2004 Retreat <br /> <br />Ms. Wolfe presented a draft of the 2003 accomplishments and 2004 goals as a too] to <br />assist in the preparation for the 2004 Retreat. <br /> <br />2.:F <br /> <br />Human Ri2hts Committee <br /> <br />Mayor Aplikowski said she received a call from Shisheila Shaw requesting Arden Hills <br />revive its Human Rights Committee (HRC) and become more active concerning the <br />issues occurring at Mounds View High School. She noted the school would take the <br />initiative to address the issues, but asked if the City would offer support. <br /> <br />Ms. Wolfe said she had also had dialogue with Mounds View High School Principal <br />Julie Wikelius and Shoreview Manager Terry Schwerm. The discussion revolved around <br />cities taking a more active roll by joining other cities that are active when dealing with <br />human rights issues. She noted that Ms. Wikelius said she wanted a venue to articulate <br />the [human rights] efforts with the broader community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Rem noted her support for Arden Hills more active participation by <br />reviving its Human Rights Committee as a compliment to surrounding cities who have <br />active Human Rights Committee's when issues come forth. <br /> <br />After Council discussion, it was the consensus to continue gathering information, <br />including attendance at some upcoming meetings. The Council is not yet ready to <br />reestablish the Human Rights Commission at this time. <br />
