<br />."'....- <br /> <br />.~ <br />~~ <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: February 17,2004 <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> <br /> <br />FROM: Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator ri0rJAdC; <br /> <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Law Enforeement Proposals: Public Input <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />At the regular City Council meeting of February 23, the public has been invited to provide input <br />to the City Council regarding law enforcement proposals. The item will then be placed on the <br />agenda for action at the March 8 meeting. <br /> <br />Arden Hills has been presented a proposal from the City of New Brighton for law enforcement <br />services. An overview of the proposal was presented at a joint meeting of the Arden Hills and <br />New Brighton City Couneils in late 2003. The current provider of law enforcement services is . <br />the Ramsey County Sheriffs Department. The County provides these services on a contract <br />basis to seven Ramsey County communities. Ramsey Connty Sheriff Bob Fletcher provided a <br />presentation to the City Council at the January work session. <br /> <br />The proposal from the City of New Brighton proposes a start date of January I, 2005. The <br />current agreement with Ramsey County requires that nine month notice be given if a City intends <br />to terminate the agreement at the end of a calendar year. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />At the February 17 City Council Work Session, the Council had an opportunity to ask questions <br />of the Ramsey County Sheriff and the New Brighton Public Safety Department. Following the <br />timeline outlined by City Council, the next step is to receive public input at the February 23 <br />regular City Council meeting. <br /> <br />Public notice regarding this meeting was provided via the following methods: <br />. Notiee on the City's WEB site <br />. Press Releases were sent to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Shoreview-Arden Hills Bulletin, <br />and the SunFocus <br />. E-mail notices were sent to everyone on a City-maintained list (residents who have <br />indicated a desire to be notified about important city events and news); many of these <br />residents forwarded the information to other neighbors <br /> <br />. <br />
