<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A List of Possible Council Actions Reqardinq Racism and <br />Human Riqhts <br /> <br />Communications: <br /> <br />Formally adopt school district-wide or multi-community resolution. <br /> <br />Insert a signed letter from Mayor and Council, plus copy of resolution, in next <br />utility billing to all residents and businesses. <br /> <br />Send a letter from the Mayor and Council to local churches asking that they <br />address issues of racism and diversity in the community. <br /> <br />Post communications and resources on City website with links to Minnesota <br />Human Rights Department; Discrimination in Education Overview; Latino, <br />Somali,and other ethnic groups, etc. <br /> <br />Focus next City newsletter on City response: letter, resolution, school and <br />city actions. <br /> <br />Place human rights/diversity posters or exhibit in City Hall. <br /> <br />Add diversity element to City core values (e.g., "Respect for human dignity <br />and rights," "Equal rights for all," or "Prejudice isn't welcome"). <br /> <br />Issue City proclamation each Martin Luther King Day (3rd Monday in January) <br />and/or Human Rights Day (early December). <br /> <br />Provide honorarium or other sponsor funding for a speaker of recognized <br />stature in conjunction with multi-community Martin Luther King Day or Human <br />Rights Di'ly (e.g., Community/Business Breakfast). <br /> <br />Personnel: <br /> <br />Review City employment policies and procedures to ensure that they <br />encourage diversity. <br /> <br />Provide diversity training for Council and City Staff. <br /> <br />Other: <br /> <br />Invite groups promoting or representing diversity (entertainers, political action, <br />interest, etc.) to Day in the Park celebration. <br />
