REGIONAL 800 MHz RADIO SYSTEM FEATURES

(e

The new regional 800 MHz trunked radio system is a distributed intra net data
communications system with some radio elements. As a result, this new radio
system can be programmed to perform many functions not previously available in
two-way radio communications. A few of these advanced functions that may be
of value to Ramsey County radio users are:

1. A very high degree of system reliability, with an ability to degrade gracefully
after almost any failure of any part of the system infrastructure.

2. An ability to maintain two-way radio contact with Ramsey County dispatch
center personnel, and with other persons on the radio net, while users roam
throughout nine counties when this is capability needed.

3. The ability to disable a radio when it is lost or stolen.

4. The ability to make a private call to a radio regardless of the talk group
selected on that radio.

5. A greatly increased ability to intercommunicate with radio users from a
different entity when coordination of activities is needed.

(-
"--_/

6. Availability of more locally "owned" talk pathways among radio users, Le., not
all activity needs to be communicated on the dispatch talk pathway. Ramsey
County radio users may add essentially as many talk pathways (talk groups)
as desired on the regional radio network.

e
