.

.

.

.

~
---A~ HILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

July 12, 2004

Agenda Item 2.B

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council

FROM: Murtuza Siddiqui, Finance Director/Treasurer ""','>

SUBJECT: Purchasing Policy

BACKGROUND:

Currently, the City of Arden Hills does not have a formal Purchasing Policy. It's a prudent
business practice for all organizations to have such a policy in place.

Staff had the opportunity to review purchasing policies from a number of comparably sized
cities. The policies reviewed are varied, both in terms of content and length. Also, I did not
necessarily find any standard or common language, and for the most part they are all unique.

DISCUSSION:

Attached is a "draft" Purchasing Policy for discussion and input from the Council Members.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Staff is seeking direction and input from the Council for the proposed Purchasing Policy as
presented.
