<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />Water Trunk and Subtrunk Distribution Mains <br /> <br />A network of pipes and related appurtenances usually in the size range of ten <br />inch (10") to sixteen inch (16"). These pipes are designed to carry large <br />volumes of water and interconnect various point sources of water supply and <br />storage reservoirs. Appurtenances to these facilities would include valves and <br />fittings, but not fire hydrants. <br /> <br />4. Water Main Laterals <br /> <br />A network of water pipes and related appurtenances usually six inches (6") or <br />eight inches (8") in size that are installed with approximately eight feet (8') of <br />ground cover to retard freezing and are designed to serve those buildings <br />abutting a given street or easement. Lateral mains are "looped" wherever <br />possible to balance pressures and to provide water from at least two (2) <br />directions so that continuous water service is maintained for most people <br />during a water main break. Looping of lateral mains eliminates dead end <br />water mains that cause a variety of distribution and stagnation problems. <br />Appurtenances to these facilities would include valves, fittings and fire <br />hydrants. <br /> <br />5. <br /> <br />Water Main Building Service <br /> <br />These pipes lead from laterals (or sometimes from trunk and subtrunk mains) <br />and serve individual buildings abutting thereon. The size of the service <br />usually ranges from three-quarter inch (3/4") to six-inch (6"), depending upon <br />the type of building served. The lines terminate at the property line with a <br />shut off valve and are plugged until such time that the building is connected to <br />the water system. <br /> <br />The property owner must make arrangements with a licensed, bonded plumber <br />to complete the service connection. <br /> <br />6. Water Connection Charge <br /> <br />This is a charge billed to all properties at the time of connection to the water <br />system. The charge is the individual property share of the cost of the trunk, <br />source, and storage facilities that make water service available. The charge is <br />based on thc size of the connection, plus the material and installation cost of a <br />water mcter. The current charges are outlined in the City Fee Schedule. <br />Neither of these charges may be assessed against the property. <br /> <br />2004 Assessment Policy - Page 17 <br />
