The proposed replacement vehicles are
two F-450 Ford pick-up trucks. City staffrecommends that the City purchases two
vehieles that have a super heavy duty front end suspension, Tommy Lift gates, and safety
lights. In order to properly sell vehicles #13 and #2, they would be placed in an
upeoming State of Minnesota auction. All proceeds from the sale of the two vehicles
would be applied to the purchase price ofthe new vehicle. The antieipated revenue from
auctioning off the two trucks is roughly $6,000 to $9,000.
-. .

.

Project Rationale:
Both vehicles were originally scheduled for replacement in 2003. Staff moved the
original replacement date back two years to 2005. Both vehicles are used for snow
plowing activities and are undersized for this type of work. Staff believes that a Ford F-
450 piek-up truck would be more effective in completing snow removal activities.
Recently vehicle #13 has developed a gas tank leak and transmission problems. Velllc1e
#2 currently has an oil and antifreeze leak. Neither truck has been repaired at this time.
Staff feels that the purchase ofFord F-450 pick-up trucks would improve the City's truck
fleet life span by minimizing the wear and tear eurrently being experienced by F-250 and
F-350 trueks. The purchase of two F-450 trucks would also provide O&M staff members
with the necessary equipment to more efficiently complete routine maintenance
activities. Both replaeement trucks have had two front end replaeements and are in need
of other maintenanee repairs.

..-- -.

.
