.

.

.

~
~~ILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

Agenda Item 2.G.

June 15,2005

TO:

Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator

FROM:

Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator
Schawn Johnson, Assistant to the City Administrator

SUBJECT:

Proposed Employee Recognition Policy

Backl!ronnd
Based upon the direction given by City Council at the May 16th work session, the following
changes have been made to the proposed employee recognition policy:
. Members of the City Council discussed the possibility of installing a large plaque in the
entry way at City Hall to recognize staff members for their years of service to the City;
. An application form and selection criteria was created for the money or time savings idea
portion of the policy;
. A definition was inserted into the employee recognition policy defining employee
retirement status;
. A policy was added that identifies different gift certificate amounts for retiring employees
based upon their years of service.

City staff has reviewed a number of employee recognition policies that have been utilized by
other communities. Department heads believe that this policy recognizes City staff in a fair an
equitable manner in the following manner:
. Exceptional Employee Job Related Performance;
. Years of Service to the City;
. Money or Time Saving Ideas;
. Employee Retirements.

The proposed policy would implement an annual cmployee luncheon that would be used to
recognize employee contributions, retirees, years of service, and exceptional job performances
over the past year. The annual employee luncheon would be scheduled for January of each year
and would be budgeted for on an annual basis.

An employee of the year would be announced at the employee luncheon. The purpose of this
policy is to recognize an employee that is deserving of a special recognition due their
accomplishments and contributions to the City over the past year.

\\Earth\Admin\Assistant City AdministratoTlMemo's and LetreTs\2005\Employee Recognition Policy 6-20-05.DOC
