Moore, Director of Operations & Maintenance <br />Murtuza Siddiqui, Finance Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Authorize City-Wide Curb-Side Collection ofStorrn-Related Tree and Brush <br />Debris by S & S Tree Services in the Amount of$200,000 <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />On Wednesday September 21, 2005, a powerful storm swept thorough the City of Arden Hills . <br />and caused extensive damage to trees located on residential as well as City own property. On <br />Thursday September 22, 2005, the 0 & M Director, in cooperation with the City Administrator; <br />divided the City into quadrants and dispatched assessment teams to survey tree damage. Staff <br />estimates that over 2,500 trees are damaged throughout the City. On Friday September 23, 2005, <br />staff called the City's tree service vendor, S & S Tree Service, to arrange for curbside piekup and <br />for the removal of hazardous trees on City property beginning on Monday, September 26, 2005. <br />At the Monday, September 26, 2005, regularly scheduled City Council meeting, staff provided a <br />detailed recap of staff actions taken in response to the storm from Wednesday, September 21, <br />2005, through Sunday, September 25,2005. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />As of Wednesday, October 5, 2005, the City has ineurred a total cleanup cost of $91 ,902.50 plus <br />tax. This cost is only related to services provided by S & S Tree Serviee. The breakdown of the <br />cost is as follows: <br /> <br />I. Curbside Pickup......................................................... $56,977.50 <br /> <br />2. Tree removal from City Property.................................... $34,925.00 <br /> <br />Total Cost as of 10/5/05 <br /> <br />$91,902.50 <br /> <br />. <br />
