URS <br /> <br />From: Frank Ticknor P.E. <br /> <br />Date: January 17,2006 <br /> <br />Subject: City of Arden Hills <br />South Water Tower Condition Assessment <br /> <br />The City of Arden Hills approved KTA-Tator Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to perform an <br />inspection of the South Water Tower on November 17, 2005. The inspection included the <br />evaluation of coating conditions, structural conditions, safety concerns, sanitary concerns, site <br />concerns, and overall observations. A report has been produced by KT A- Tator Inc. which <br />summarizes all the findings as well as provides laboratory results for all coating samples taken <br />and finally evaluates and provides recommendations for the South Water Tower. <br /> <br />Please review the attached report for the complete results of the inspection. Provided here is a <br />brief summary of the findings. Overall the South water tower is in very good condition and no <br />immediate action is necessary although there are some items that should be addressed within the <br />next two to three years. Below is a list of recommendations to consider along with cost <br />estimates: <br /> <br />. A security fence around the immediate tank with access gates should be placed to reduce <br />the chance of contamination of the tank contents or vandalism ($24,000) <br />. The ground around the tank's foundation should be graded so that the foundation <br />projects 6 inches above grade with the slope of the grade away from the foundation <br />($2,200) <br />. Exterior Coating is in good condition although there are areas oflocalized corrosion. <br />All areas of localized corrosion on the exterior coating should be spot repaired ($13,500) <br />. A stainless steel screen should be placed over the overflow pipe's outlet to eliminate the <br />possibility of wildlife entering the tank ($400) <br />. Interior Coating of the pedestal and the Exterior Coating of the bowl is in good condition <br />although thcre are areas oflocalized corrosion. All areas oflocalized corrosion in the <br />
