Tennis Court Resurfacing and Replaeement Options
July 6, 2006
Page 3 on

. BUDGET CONSIDERATIONS
In 2005, there were funds budgeted for resurfacing. The funds were not specified for any certain
location. Due to budgetary considcrations, staff made the decision not to resurfaee any hard
eourt play areas. As stated carlier, funds were allocated for resurfacing on an every other year
basis. Therefore, the 2006 budget does not include any funds for resurfacing of hard court areas.
Floral Park and Royal Hills Park hard court play areas are in terrible shape. Staff recommends
that they be resurfaeed either this year or in 2007. In order to have the work done this year, the
budget would have to be amended. Staffreceived two quotes for the three courts in need of
repair. The quotcs are attached for your review. Recreational Surfaccrs did not submit a quote
for Cummings beeause they only resurface and do not do complete reconstruction for courts.

RRQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
Staffrecommends that the City Council take one of the following actions:

I. Amend the 2006 budget by an inercase of$II,956.00 (lowest bid) for the resurface of
both Royal Hills Park and Floral Park hard court play areas.

2. Amend the 2006 budget by an increase 01'$5,993.00 (lowest bid) for the resurface of the
Floral Park hard court play areas and direct staffto begin the proposed
maintenance/resurfacing schedule in 2007.

.

3.

Direct staffto budget for both Floral Park and Royal Hills Park hard court play areas in
2007, effectively delaying the proposed maintenance/resurfacing schedule one year.

RECOMMENDATION
Staffreeommends that the City Council amend the 2006 budget by an increase of$11 ,956.00
(lowest bid) for resurfacing the hard eourt play areas at Floral Park and Royal Hills Park. At a
minimum, staff feels that these two courts should be scheduled for resurfacing in 2007.

.
