MN 55 J 13 Re: fY2006 Cooperative Agreement StlbmJttal Bridge over Tl-JS J Sidewalk Jmprovements CIty of Arden Hills Dear Ms. Zarling: The City of Arden Hills is requesting funding within the FY2006 Cooperative Agreement Program for management and safety improvements for the sidewalk along the County Road E bridge over THSI. The narrow sidewalk along the bridge and significant volume of pedestrian traffic creates a safety concern. The bridge is the only pedestrian crossing over THSJ between Lydia Avenue in Rosevillc and 1-694, a distance of approximately one and a half miles. The sidewalk accommodates a significant amount of the pedestrian traffic from Moundsview High School, 13ethelllniversity and neighborhoods in the surrounding area. The bridge is considered a gap in the Arden JJills sidewalk and trails system and is a high priority improvement for the City Council and City's Parks & Trails Recreatjon Committee. The proposed improvements involve widening the bridge deck to facilitate a 7.5-foot wide sidewalk. This would be accomplished by slightly narrowing the traffic lanes, extending the bndge support along the north side and replace the railing system along the south side. Additional improvements would include construction of a 6' wide concrete sidewalk, extending from the bridge through the signalized intersections, pedestrian ramps and construction of cast in place wall to address grade issues near the bridge.
