As previously reported, the bids came in higher than the Engineer's Estimate,
Staff has spent the last few weeks trying to identify cost savings with the project. As of this
writing we are still working on some options, It appcars we may be able to cover the overage for
the Water fund, aJ1d cover some of thc ovcragcs in thc Gcncral Capital and Stormwatcr funds.
As noted in the June 12 memorandum from City Engineer Deb Bloom, staff is recommending
awarding the bid for the 2006 PMP project The information in this report is provided in
conjunction with the City Engineer's memorandum to assist Council with review of proposed
action.

DISCUSSION

Council has inquired how staff would proposc to adjust capital project aJ1d equipment
expenditures in the future to account for the higher bid prices. The CIP is still in thc progress of
being developed, so we have the opportunity to develop the proposed five-year CIP (2007-2011)
already knowing the cost impacts of the 2006 PMP project. But looking at the most recent staff
version of the CIP, we have some possibilities for review and discussion aJ1d we proceed with
development of the CIP,

In the project funds, the differencc between the Engineer's Estimate and the Construction bid
was as follows:

General Capital Fund*
Storm Sewer Fund
Sanitary Sewer Fund
Water Fund

$ 72,686.77
$ 147,463.47
$ (1,584.50)
$ 71,060.16

*The expenditures from the Capital Fund will be supplemented by $200,000 in the General Fund.
