ARDEN HILLS CITY C01JNCIL - SEPTEMBER 25, 2006 4 and O&M staff was completed during spring, 2006 and the Contractor has subsequcntly completed minor punchlist work and seed/sod restoration identified during the walk through. . He stated the Change Order includes payment of a bonus for cxceeding bituminous density requirements and payment for additional pond excavation materials incorporated into the project. He recommended Council approve Change Order #1 for Arnt Construction Company, Inc. of Hugo, Minnesota in the amount of $43,254.24. Councilmember Holden asked how did awarding contractors for bituminous density factor into the bidding process. Mr. Brown responded it was less in the bid and more in the installation. He stated there was more incentive to get things compacted very well. He noted the City received a better produet out of this procedure. Councilmember Holden asked why was the Change Order coming before them now. Mr. Brown stated technically the contractor was to make a claim when anything changes, and in this case they made the claim in February or March. He stated they had ncgotiated with the contractor on this Change Order. Councilmember Holden asked what the total cost of the project was. Ms. Wolfe responded staff would put together a report to Council itemizing the total cost of the project. Councilmember Pellegrin asked how did the incentive pay work and what did the City get for this. He asked who measured the density and what formulas wcre used. Mr. Brown respondcd with thc density of the mate they would expect a longer life out of the material. Hc stated American Engineering, an indepcndent cnginecring firm, tested the density and the formulas used were MnDOT formulas. . MOTION: Councilmcmber Holden movcd and Councilmember Pellegrin seconded a motion to approve Change Order #1 for Arnt Construction Company, Inc. of Hugo, Milmesota in the amount of $43,254.24 for the 2005 PMP Project. The motion carried unanimously (4-0). D. Motion to Approvc Final Pavmcnt (Pavment #7) to Arnt Construction in the amount of $132.108.35 for the 2005 Red Fox/Grcy Fox PMP Proiect Mr. Brown stated the City awarded Amt Constmction Company Ine. of Hugo the 2005 Pavement Management Program on August 8, 2005 for a total contract amount of$I,375,247.66. Change Order #1 is $43,254.24 is pending approval by Council at the September 25, 2006 Council Meeting. If Change Order #1 is approvcd the new contract amount will be $1,418,501,90. Hc recommended Council approve Pay Application #7 for Arnt Construction Company, Inc. in the amount of$132,108.35. .
