~ . ~ ~ EN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: October 24,2006 COUNCIL WORK SESSION TO: Mayor and City Council Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator FROM: Karen Barton, Community Development Director ~ SUBJECT: Economic Development Strategic Plan Discussion Background In December of 2005, the City Council authorized the Economic Development Commission (EDC) to hire a consultant to prepare an Economic Development . Strategic Plan for the City. The EDC immediately began the RFP process and in March of 2006 hired DeSCo Solutions, Inc., to prepare the Plan. DeSCo in collaboration with the EDC gathered information through research and interviews with City Officials, Key Leaders and Stakeholders, as well as through a city-wide survey, then used this information to prepare the attached Economic Development Strategic Plan. The EDC has since reviewed the Plan and, after making some changes to the Plan, has recommended adoption and implementation of this plan in and for the City of Arden Hills. EDC Chair Bruce Kunkel presented the Plan to the Council at the October 16 council meeting. Council acknowledged and thanked the EDC for all of the effort that went into developing the Plan. Recognizing that there is a great deal of information and financial ramifications associated with the Plan, the Council requested the Plan be brought to a work session for more in-depth discussion. Discussion Arden Hills' EDC is charged with providing vision and direction to the economic development efforts of the City. The EDC's priorities associated with this mission . a re to: 1. Ensure a sustainable, profitable, and competitive economic climate in the City;
