<br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION-June 18,2007 <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />Relations. At the March 26th meeting, the City Council approved a contract with Riley, <br />Dettmann, & Kelsey LLC to assist City staff with completing the State of Minnesota mandated <br />pay equity requirement and evaluate the City of Arden Hills existing compensation system. The <br />intent of the job classification and compensation study is to ensure that the City is in compliance <br />with the State of Minnesota's pay equity standards and to evaluate the City's existing <br />compensation structure to ensure that we are comparable and competitive with other cities that <br />have similar demographics. <br /> <br />Mr. Johnson noted that on April 25th, City staff met with Mr. Rod Kelsey to discuss the pay <br />equity and compensation study. City staff members were asked to complete a Job Description <br />Questionnaire (IDQ) pertaining to their current position. All City staff members have completed <br />the assigned IDQ and this information will be forwarded to Riley, Dettmann, and Kelsey for <br />further review and processing in the near future. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Schawn Johnson introduced Mr. Rod Kelsey to the City Council. <br />Mr. Rod Kelsey provided the City Council with an overview of the pay equity and compensation <br />study. <br /> <br />Mr. Johnson stated that City staff is seeking guidance from the City Council regarding a list of <br />potential peer comparison cities. Riley, Dettmann, and Kelsey will use these cities when <br />comparing the City's current compensation structure. The following is a list of potential peer <br />comparison cities that were presented to the City Council: <br /> <br />1. Anoka (17,899); <br />2. Dayton (5059); <br />3. East Bethel (11,917); <br />4. Ham Lake (15,136); <br />5. Hugo (9,440); <br />6. Little Canada (9,996); <br />7. Mendota Heights (11,582); <br />8. Mound (9,838); <br />9. Mounds View (12,442); <br />10. New Brighton (22,113); <br />11. North St. Paul (11,929); <br />12. Robbinsdale (13,873); <br />13. Vadnais Heights (13,241). <br /> <br />Councilmember Fran Holmes asked why communities that are on the outskirts of the metro area <br />are being proposed for this study. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Schawn Johnson noted that communities like East Bethel and Ham <br />Lake are similar to the City of Arden Hills in that they are still growing and contract for police <br />and fire services. <br />
