<br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION-June 18, 2007 <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />Councihnember Holden asked if the City needs to advertise that the old City Hall property is for <br />sale. <br /> <br />City Administrator Michelle Wolfe stated that typically real estate developers are aware that the <br />property is available. The real estate market has changed over the past few years. The City may <br />have to advertise the property in the future in order to gain interest from potential developers. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung suggested that the City Council have a discussion regarding the City's <br />redevelopment philosophy. The Economic Development Commission and Parks, Trails, and <br />Recreation Committee (PTRC) should be involved in this discussion. <br /> <br />Councilmember Fran Holmes asked why the EDC is promoting the installation of gateway signs. <br /> <br />Mr. Kunkel stated that it is sometimes difficult for individuals to know when they are in Arden <br />Hills. It is important for the City to brand itself and let people know that they are in Arden Hills <br />and not in one of our neighboring cities. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holden noted that the City needs to do a better job of identifYing City Hall on <br />CSAH 96. <br /> <br />Mayor Harpstead noted that the City is reactive when it comes to redevelopment opportunities. It <br />is important for the City to create a strategic plan and become more proactive in its <br />redevelopment efforts. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Karen Barton stated the St. Paul Metal Craft Company has <br />approached the City about relocating its current business. There are a number of ways that the <br />City could assist a company with relocation that are not monetary in nature. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung requested that the EDC begin researching the different redevelopment <br />options and assistance programs that the City can provide to local businesses. <br /> <br />Councihnember Holmes noted that it is important for the City to improve its relationship with the <br />local business community. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung noted that the EDC could utilize the City's newsletter to advertise to <br />the public about redevelopment opportunities and the strategic plan. <br /> <br />Members of the City Council requested that City staff revise the strategic plan and proposed <br />2008 budget for the EDC. <br /> <br />PAY EOUlTY STUDY INTRODUCTION <br />Assistant City Administrator Schawn Johnson stated that Arden Hills last completed a job <br />classification and compensation study in 2002. In January of 2008, the City of Arden Hills is <br />required by state law to submit a pay equity report to the Minnesota Department of Employee <br />
