<br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION-June 18,2007 <br /> <br />12 <br /> <br />While not required, the Metropolitan Council encourages cities to address economic <br />development, redevelopment, and intergovermnental coordination. At this time, we are hoping <br />to address these topics in some fashion in the 2008 Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Although the comprehensive plans for each city in the metropolitan area will have a unique <br />flavor, the Metropolitan Council has published a number of policy plans that each city must <br />conform. These plans include the 2030 Regional Development Framework, the 2030 <br />Transportation Policy Plan, the 2030 Regional Parks Policy Plan, and the 2030 Water Resources <br />Management Policy Plan. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Karen Barton stated that the City's goal is to create a user <br />friendly document that can be used by the City in the future. <br /> <br />Plamring Commission Member Clayton Zimmerman said that the City needs to create a <br />comprehensive plan that is viable and can be used by the City in the future. <br /> <br />Mr. Mark Koegler (HGKi) noted that the City's goal should be to create a comprehensive plan <br />that addresses the City's concerns ten to twenty years into the future. It is important to avoid <br />being stuck in the status quo. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung questioned whether the City would have a population of 22,500 by <br />2030. <br /> <br />Mayor Harpstead requested that City staff contact the Met Council and request that they lower <br />the City's projected population for 2030. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Barton stated that City staff will request that the Met Council <br />makes this change. <br /> <br />Councihnember McClung requested that City staff creates a communication plan to inform the <br />public of comprehensive plan process. <br /> <br />Mr. Lehnhoff noted that public meetings discussing the comprehensive plan will be held in <br />August, October, and March. The objective is to spread out the number of public meetings <br />meeting being held in order to engage the public with this process. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Barton noted that the City will be utilizing the community <br />survey to obtain information for the comprehensive plan. <br /> <br />City Planner James Lehnhoff stated that the City will be working very closely with HGKi, the <br />City of Roseville Engineering Department, and a future transportation consultant on the <br />comprehensive plan project. Mr. Lehnhoff requested that City Council and City staff members <br />feel free to provide him with their input regarding the existing comprehensive plan. <br />
