I EXECUTIVE SUMMARY E Li <br />Executive Summary <br />Northwestern College is at a precipitous time in its distinguished 100 <br />year plus history. Growth has been remarkable over the last decade, <br />and is a direct commentary on the College's success. That impressive <br />enrollment increase has allowed the College to further spread its <br />word. <br />Moving into its second century, the College appointed a new Presi- <br />dent in 2003. In his relatively short tenure on campus, Dr. Alan <br />Cureton has infused a wonderful sense of energy and enthusiasm that <br />will help guide the future of Northwestern College. <br />The new vision of Northwestern College promotes expansion of its <br />programs, with an enrollment target of 2400 full-time equivalent stu- <br />dents in its traditional programs. This expansion also advances its <br />alternative education programs, and the beginnings of a Masters pro- <br />gram. While supporting the College's mission, the expansion will <br />also provide a new economy of scale to its financial and operational <br />needs. <br />At the same time, the proposed increase in enrollment will exacerbate <br />the current shortage of available space on campus, and as a result, <br />enrollment has been forced to be limited. In response to this situation, <br />the Campus Master Plan used the 2001 Space Utilization Study as a <br />significant stepping -off point. <br />Change is inevitable... planning is a method to direct change. <br />The planning process has reviewed, analyzed and assessed the issues <br />on campus, and with input from all constituencies on campus, has <br />developed a flexible "recipe" for working with space use planning <br />and other significant topics on campus... for current and potential <br />future issues.
