RECOMMENDATIONS
51 Provide a mid-size auditorium/ theatre in the music wing addi-
tion seating 500± persons. This would be a more efficient loca-
tion for 'black box' theatre, chapel "overflow", smaller concerts,
chapel alternatives, theatre productions, conferences, etc. than
using Maranatha auditorium (1500) or Nazareth Chapel (300).
This space could also be considered for rental use to produce
outside income.
52 Research ways to reduce overhead costs by reduction of waste,
more efficient use of present resources, student involvement in
the preservation of physical assets, and energy conservation mea-
sures (heat recovery, ground source heating and cooling, occu-
pancy sensors for lighting, etc.). All remodeling, additions and
additions shall consider USGBC (United States Green Building
Council) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) provisions for design and construction methods. Each
individual project shall be reviewed from a cost/ benefit analysis
perspective.
MISCELLANEOUS
53 In the College's 10 year Deferred Maintenance Plan, NWC was
compared to about 18 other schools. As an aid to continual
improvement by NWC, it would be beneficial to evaluate NWC's
strengths and weaknesses in comparison with the other schools
referenced.
54 Research and assess availability of grants, and discuss potential
approaches with assets and sister colleges.
55 Do a performance analysis in each of the college's departments
and streamline service.
56 Evaluate all services that the College produces and purchases,
compare them against the industry norms and standards (cost,
quality, life expectancy, etc), and make adjustments to improve
the College's position.
IMPLEMENTATION
57 As the College seriously develops its plans for expanding to 2400
traditional student FTE, the time frame must be developed in
concert with, and in parallel with, the Capital Campaign for new
space.
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS PAGE 5.10
