40 Information on all proposed facility proposals shall be distrib-
uted to the NWC'community' for review and input.
OPERATIONS, ETC.
41 As part of recruiting students, applying for grant requests and
soliciting funds for its capital campaign, the college should con-
tinue to capitalize on the uniqueness of its strengths. (music
ministries, ancient literature, campus setting and architecture, ...)
42 In order to "bridge the facilities gap" between 1600 FTE and
2400 FTE, the admissions process must be monitored closely and
managed in parallel with future building construction.
43 Investigate and acquire software that allows campus wide
scheduling and facility utilization to become more centralized,
integrating academic and event scheduling. (academics, extra-
curricular, performances, visitors, weddings, special events, etc.)
44 To maximize efficient use of space, departmental "ownership" of
classrooms and general labs should not be permitted.
45 To alleviate immediate space needs, incorporate one or two addi-
tional hours per day to the schedule. Review issue of "protected"
hours.
46 To provide more flexibility of operations and minimize the need
for new space, large group functions can be broken down into
smaller groups. (Chapel, dining, concerts, etc.) Culture of the
College needs to be included in the discussions of making these
changes.
47 As part of on-going space management, continue to monitor
square footage use and compare against norms. (Space use man-
agement would be improved when the College implements a
"cost allocation" system to encourage departmental efficiencies,
as well as accountability.)
48 Consider designating parking zones that reflect frequency of use
and need. Control parking with the use of vehicle stickers.
49 Purchase Sutton Field for use as overflow practice field. (Note
that officials of Presbyterian Homes potentially have plans to
build on the Sutton Field area in 7 years.)
50 Expand student broadcasting and television to closed-circuit
campus programming.
NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS MASTER PLAN PARTNERS & SIRNY ARCHITECTS PAGE 5.9
