September 11,2007

Arden Hills Planning Commission
Arden Hills City Council

I read in today's issue of the Shoreview Press about the proposed redevelopment of
Arden Plaza.

I want to go on record as opposing the additionofa Walgreen's pharmacy as part of that
development.

What we do not need in the area is another big corporation Walgreen's to supplant the
independently owned Arden Hills Pharmacy. The current pharmacy has served the area
faithfully and does not deserve to be dumped. I care about the personal service that the
Arden Hills Pharmacy provides. I can go in just about any direction ifl care for an
impersonal "big box" drug store. Please do not remove our tried and true pharmacy.
There are pharmacies in both the nearby CUB and Target stores. Why duplicate those?

Instead, I would welcome, and believe it to be a tremendons asset, if a Trader Joe's
would become part of the proposed complex. This is an extremely popular grocer/market
that would bring in far more customers to this complex than a Walgreens. It would be an
asset to any shopping area. I have hoped there would be a Trader Joe's in the area for
quite a number of years; since I shopped in their Tempe store several years ago. I now
must travel to St. Louis Park to their very popular store and have even suggested to the
manager there that they locate a store in the north suburhan area. The popularity of
Trader Joe's is evidenced by the always full parking lot at their location in St. Louis Park.
If you would check with that store manager he would verifY that statement. I believe we
need a market of this caliber in our area. The only grocers that approaches this is Byerlys
and Kowalskis. Both of these are at least five miles from high-end shoppers residences.

~

,.~

Frances Kaliszewski
Frkalis004@iphouse.com
