As a
long-time customer of Arden Pharmacy, I write in opposition to this
proposal, on the grounds that:

Citizens across the country are now aware of how important it is to
IIbuy local/II to keep money in the local economy, support small,
homegrown businesses, decrease need for transportation of
merchandise, and have a local person responsive to needs of the
community. Walgreen is a national chain.

Arden Plaza has a comfortable, neighborhood look to it--pleasant
buildings, beautiful flowers in summer, the garden shop at the local
hardware store. Walgreen stores have an ugly chain design in all the
stores that I have seen. Such a store will be an unsightly and
jarring note at Arden Plaza.

Arden Pharmacy already carries much of the merchandise Walgreen
sellsf and Walgreen will take customers away from a local business,
perhaps leading to the closing of Arden Pharmacy. The rest of the
merchandise Walgreen sells is readily found at Cub grocery and Super
Target, both within three blocks down the street.

The United States has been taken over by big-box stores, Walgreen
included. They drive local businesses out of business, have
questionable buying practices, and some have questionable employment
practices. We can do better than this in Arden Hills, I ask that
you deny Walgreen permission to build at Arden Plaza.

Leslie Reindl
1233 Ingerson Road
Arden Hills 55112

1
