ARDEN HILLS PLANNlNG COMMISSION - SEPTEMBER 5, 2007

11

Chair Sand inquired if there is something that could be done to soften the Walgreen's
sign in the tower. He stated that lighting can often be softened by using a different type
of lighting. He inquired if the other lighting on the site is low or high pressured sodium
casting a blue or yellow light. Mr. Lehnhoff stated that he believes it is the yellow light.

Chair Sand stated the public hearing will be on October 3, 2007. He stated the Planning
Commission will then make a recommendation to the City Council.

Council Liaison Holden clarified that the Council does not make the decisions about the
types of businesses that are located on specific sites. She stated that businesses are
required to follow the rules and they are denied only ifthere is a legal reason to be denied.

Commissioner Larson stated that they have received various emails regarding this proj ect.
He stated that one of the emails refers to the need, practicality, and fairness of the proj ect.
He stated that these are not standards that they have to evaluate projects by. He stated
their job is to evaluate if the proposed projects meet the criteria for the zoning
regulations. He stated that the emotional objections won't influence the Planning
Commission's decision.

Mr. Lehnhoff stated that there have been a number of concerns about traffic and the
traffic report is public knowledge and will be accessible once it is finished.
