A minimum of one tree shall be <br />provided along the right of way for every fifty (50) feet of public street <br />frontage. <br /> <br />6. Perennials and Shrubberies. At least ten (10) percent of the total <br />landscaped area shall be covered with perennials and/or shrubbery and <br />be planted within the perimeter of private parking, building, and <br />driveway areas. <br /> <br />7. Planting Islands. Planting islands shall be required to visually <br />break up expanses of hard-surface parking areas, to provide safe and <br />efficient traffic movement, and to defme rows of parking. Planting <br />islands shall occupy at least ten (10) percent of the parking area. <br />Planting islands shall be edged with concrete curbs. Parking lot <br />planting islands shall be a minimum of 150 square feet in area, be of <br />appropriate width and length, and include at least one tree meeting the <br />requirements ofthis ordinance. <br /> <br />G. Landscape Design Specifications. All landscape plans and landscaping <br />under this subdivision shall follow and be in compliance with the <br />following requirements, together with all other Code regulations: <br /> <br />1. Diverse Selection. The landscape plan shall include a full <br />complement of over story, ornamental and evergreen trees, shrubbery, <br />and ground covers that are hardy and appropriate for the locations in <br />which they are planted, and which provide year-round color and <br />interest. <br /> <br />2. Existing Plant Credit. Plant materials existing on a site at the time <br />of development, may be used as a credit against the requirements of <br />these landscape regulations; the City Council shall determine the <br />extent of credit allowed, based on the evaluation of species, size, <br />location, quality of existing plant materials and the consistency with <br />the intent of these regulations. <br /> <br />3. Plant Selection. The City maintains a list of trees that may not be <br />used to satisfy the landscaping requirement of this section. <br /> <br />4. Method of Installation. All deciduous and coniferous trees shall be <br />planted in accordance with American Standards for Nursery Stock <br />relating to quality of stock and appropriate sizing of the root ball for <br />balled and burlapped and spade-moved trees. <br /> <br />5. Slopes and Berms.
