Street markers. <br /> (b) It is hereby declared to be the policy of the city to <br /> proceed as soon as practicable after final approval of a <br /> subdivision plat with inatallations within the subdivision of <br /> I such improvements as may be determined to be necessary <br /> by the city council, such as central wells, water mains, <br /> street grading, street surfacing, sanitary and storm sewers, <br /> water pumping, and storage facilities and hydrants. The city <br /> engineer shall be directed to prepare plans and specifica- <br /> tions for the same upon acceptance of the final plat and <br /> shalI submit his recommendations for such improvements, <br /> together with estimated costa, to the city council. The <br /> council may authorize preparation of such plans and <br /> specifications by an engineer employed by the subdivider at , <br /> his sole expense and under the direction and subject to the <br /> approval of the engineer. Upon acceptance of the final plat <br /> the council may commence assessment proceedings for the <br /> furnishing and construction of said improvementa within <br /> the subdivision, and may order such of said improvements <br /> as it deems expedient and necessary. <br /> In the alternative, the city council may authorize the <br /> execution of a contract between the city and the subdivider <br /> requiring the subdivider to furnish and to construct said <br /> improvements at the sole cost of the subdivider, in ~ <br /> accordance with plans and specifications and usual contract <br /> conditions approved by the council, which shall include <br /> provision for supervision of details of construction by the <br /> city engineer, and grant to the engineer authority to <br /> correlate the work to be done under said contract with other <br /> improvements in the subdivision which may be constructed <br /> by the city under contract with others. The subdivider as <br /> contractor shall furnish a surety bond with penalty equal to <br /> 125 times the cost of the improvements to be made under <br /> the contract as estimated by the city engineer, which bond <br /> will be in form required by statute for public contractors <br /> bonds and will identify the improvements and the time <br /> schedule for their completion. <br /> 40 1299 <br /> <br /> ~ <br />
