Definitions. <br /> For the purposes of this chapter, the following words and <br /> ~ phrases ahall have the meanings respectively ascribed to <br /> them: <br /> Doing business: The operator of a taxicab: <br /> (a) Maintains a garage, office or place of busineas in the <br /> city, or <br /> (b) Regularly receives calls at any location in the city for <br /> the dispatch of his taxicabs. <br /> Operator: Any person owning or having control of the use <br /> of one or more taxicabs. <br /> <br /> Taxicab: Any motor vehicle used in the carrying of <br /> persons for hire, whether over afixed route or not, and <br /> whether operating from a street stand or subject to calls <br /> from a garage or elsewhere, but excluding government- <br /> owned vehicles, vehicles regularly used by undertakers in <br /> carrying on their business, or vehicles controlled and <br /> regulated by the state public service commiasion or other <br /> regulatory body of the state. Operating order and equipment. <br /> Any operator of a taxicab doing business in the city shall <br /> cause such taxicab to be equipped, at all times he is doing <br /> business, with taximetera plainly visible to riders thereon <br /> and shall maintain any such taxicab in good running order <br /> and in full conformance with all applicable federal and atate <br /> laws and applicable provisiona of this code.
