<br />District Design Guidelines <br /> <br />Planning and Design Principles <br /> <br />The following principles are the basis for the design guidelines, reflect <br />the community vision and will be followed through the evolution of the <br />di stri ct. <br /> <br />1. Be more urban than suburban in terms of density, building height, <br />parking and fayade treatments. <br /> <br />213 Include several types of land uses such as office, housing, retail or <br />service businesses and, possibly, job-intensive light industry. <br /> <br />3m Face residential, office and retail buildings toward the public street to <br />the extent possible. <br /> <br />4. Insist on a high quality of design in buildings and public <br />improvements. <br /> <br />51l For office or residential buildings, strive to locate as much of the <br />parking as possible in structures, under buildings or to the rear of <br />buildings. For commercial sites, strive to locate at least some of the <br />building(s) between the street and the surface parking area. <br /> <br />6. Provide a generous amount of landscaping; pay attention to the <br />details of lighting, signage, materials and fixtures. <br /> <br />7.
