~ EN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: March 16, 2009 Agenda Item I.F TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Ron Moorse, City Administrator FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager SUBJECT: Review of Pay Levels for Temporary/Seasonal Positions Back2:round The City Council discussed pay levels for Temporary/Seasonal Positions at the February 17, 2009 Council Work Session. After a brief discussion, the City Council asked for further information to be presented at tonight's work session. Each year, the.City hires a number of temporary/seasonal employees for positions in Recreation Programs and Parks Maintenance. The 2009 temporary/seasonal pay ranges are attached. The 2009 pay ranges were approved by the Council at the December 12,2008 Council meeting. The pay levels for these positions are based on surveys of pay levels of positions in other cities with whom we compete for quality employees, as well as experience regarding the pay levels necessary to attract quality employees. For 2009, the Arden Hills pay levels were maintained at 2008 levels, with the exception of the following positions: Playground Leader (starting wage went up from $8.00 to $8.25), Park Attendant (went from $8.25 to $8.50), and Soccer OfficialslUmpires (went from $13.00 per game to $14.00 per game). Staffhas either struggled to find staff for these positions or found that we were below market on the starting wage. Listed below are the various positions that the City hires and the average pay from the various adjacent cities.
