ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION - JUNE 15, 2009

3

Park and Recreation Manager Olson stated that the city received a $10,000
donation from Boston Scientific for this project noting they were very supportive
of the safe routes to school program.

Mayor Harpstead thanked staff for the information presented and for working so
well with the agencies needed to complete this project.

Councilmember McClung thanked staff as well for their efforts on this project.

It was the consensus of the City Council to direct staff to proceed with the Safe
Routes to School/DNR Project as presented.

B. Celebrating Arden Hills

Park and Recreation Manager Olson presented the City Council with
information on Celebrating Arden Hills. She explained that Council made it a goal
at the Annual Retreat for the PTRC to discuss the future of this event.

Park and Recreation Manager Olson indicated this was discussed in detail at a
PTRC meeting with the consensus of the group being to create a subcommittee to
allow those interested to become more involved. She stated at this time there are
five members on the committee with the first meeting being held on May 26,2009.

Park and Recreation Manager Olson noted the next step would be to set a date
and begin structuring the event budget. She indicated there were competing events
during the summer and that a fall festival could be a possibility.

Park and Recreation Manager Olson stated the subcommittee would continue
discussions and has generated several great ideas already. She noted the group
would seek sponsorship from local businesses to assist with the budget. The
budget from the 2006 event was reviewed.

Park and Recreation Manager Olson questioned what the Council would be
comfortable with for the budgeted event in 2010. She also asked for additional
comments or questions that the Council may have that could be brought back to the
subcommittee.

Further discussion ensued regarding the potential date of the event. It was noted
that the City would receive more involvement from local businesses if held on a
weekday.
