<br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION - JUNE 15, 2009 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Manager Olson stated that the city received a $10,000 <br />donation from Boston Scientific for this project noting they were very supportive <br />of the safe routes to school program. <br /> <br />Mayor Harpstead thanked staff for the information presented and for working so <br />well with the agencies needed to complete this project. <br /> <br />Councilmember McClung thanked staff as well for their efforts on this project. <br /> <br />It was the consensus of the City Council to direct staff to proceed with the Safe <br />Routes to School/DNR Project as presented. <br /> <br />B. Celebrating Arden Hills <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Manager Olson presented the City Council with <br />information on Celebrating Arden Hills. She explained that Council made it a goal <br />at the Annual Retreat for the PTRC to discuss the future of this event. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Manager Olson indicated this was discussed in detail at a <br />PTRC meeting with the consensus of the group being to create a subcommittee to <br />allow those interested to become more involved. She stated at this time there are <br />five members on the committee with the first meeting being held on May 26,2009. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Manager Olson noted the next step would be to set a date <br />and begin structuring the event budget. She indicated there were competing events <br />during the summer and that a fall festival could be a possibility. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Manager Olson stated the subcommittee would continue <br />discussions and has generated several great ideas already. She noted the group <br />would seek sponsorship from local businesses to assist with the budget. The <br />budget from the 2006 event was reviewed. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Manager Olson questioned what the Council would be <br />comfortable with for the budgeted event in 2010. She also asked for additional <br />comments or questions that the Council may have that could be brought back to the <br />subcommittee. <br /> <br />Further discussion ensued regarding the potential date of the event. It was noted <br />that the City would receive more involvement from local businesses if held on a <br />weekday. <br />
