REVIEW CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS AND CONSTRUCTION BUDGET FOR <br /> TAMARACK NATURE CENTER NATURE PLAY AREA AND CHILDREN'S GARDEN <br /> Mr.Wehrle provided an update on the Destination for Discovery project at Tamarack <br /> Mature Center. The project will be constructed in multiple phases with a total cost of <br /> approximately$12,000,000. Funding to date for the project is $2,000,000, including <br /> State bonds, Legacy funding, a LCMR grant and IMLS grants. <br /> Other items of interest involving Tamarack Mature Center are that the Destinatio <br /> n for <br /> Discovery project will be awarded a planning grant award from NACPRO (National <br /> Association of County Parks and Recreation Organizations). In addition a state grant� g nt <br /> was received for natural resource restoration work around Teal Pond, and a $20,000 <br /> state grant was received for realignment of the cross-country ski trails to accommodate <br /> future development. <br /> BATTLE CREEK OFF-LEASH DOG AREA EXPANSION FENCING AND PRO <br /> POSED <br /> USER FEE <br /> There have been meetings and discussion between RamseyCount and the - <br /> y e off leash <br /> dog area user group. Mr. Mack provided some history on the creation of the off-leash <br /> dog area. The off-leash dog area was begun as a pilot Initially,'ro the Battle <br /> project. y= <br /> Creek off-leash dog area was 7.5 acres but over the years has expanded to 13 acres. <br /> The County proposes to expand the off leash dog area to 25 acres. The user group <br /> p <br /> proposes the area be 56 acres in size. A public meeting to discuss the area is <br /> scheduled for June 26, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Battle Creek Recreation Center. <br /> Ramsey County intends to fence all the off-leash dog areas under its jurisdiction. In <br /> addition, a use permit is proposed at an annual cost of$50 per dog. <br /> p g <br /> LEGISLATIVE UPDATE <br /> Mr. Mack provided the following update: <br /> • Ramsey County will receive $2.1 million legislative appropriation ro riation for 2010-2011 <br /> from the Parks and Trails Fund of the Legacy Amendment <br /> • Ramsey County is eligible to participate in $8 million of competitive r p grants for <br /> regional parks and trails statewide for 2010-2011 <br /> • Currently working with the Metropolitan Council on a State bonding bill request <br /> • Ramsey County departments have been preparing 2010-2011 budgets based on <br /> a 3% levy reduction <br /> ANNUAL PARKS TOUR <br /> The annual parks tour is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11 2009 at . <br /> 00 PM. Parks <br /> Commission members should meet at the Parks and Recreation Administration build <br /> ing, <br /> 2015 N. Van Dyke Street, Maplewood MN. <br /> OTHER <br /> Ms. Yungers reported: <br /> • The water level at White Bear Lake is down significantly and the decision was <br /> made to close the swimming beach for the 2009 season. The boat launch area <br /> will be redeveloped beginning in July, 2009. <br /> • Ramsey County received planks from the Department of Natural Re <br /> sources esources to <br /> repair the two boat launches. Lake Owasso and Lake Johanna boat launches <br /> 2 <br />
